Phil Hemsley from Totnes has won the Devon Hedge Group photo competition for 2011 with his picture ‘The Cauldron’ looking over the Wytchcombe & Yarnacombe vales.
Second place went to Graham Woollven from Horrabridge for ‘Lundy Wall’.
The judges, Sheila Haycox, Andrew Cooper and Malcom Baldwin said they particularly liked the composition of the stone boundary, especially with the lighthouse at the end of the wall.
The competition for amateur photographers was part of a project entitled “Green Veins & Lanes” grant-aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Devon County Council, and by both the Blackdown Hills and the North Devon AONB Sustainable Development Funds.
Sheila Haycox a local photographer and judge said: “The quality of entries for this competition was extremely high, making it a very difficult choice.”
The winner of the under 11 category was Ben Bingham from Crediton for his photograph of ‘The Holly and the Ladybird’.
All of the winning entries will be on display at a travelling photographic exhibition which portrays the great changes in hedgerows that have taken place over the past century.
