You probably know the water vole better as Ratty in Kenneth Graham’s Wind in the Willows. But it is also a small mammal that was once common in our riverbanks and waterways. Their numbers have declined sharply over the last few decades and we would like to find out just how many there are in the National Park and where they are living.<\/div>\n

You can help by telling us where and when you see them.<\/div>\n

Otters<\/div>\n
Otters are a priority species throughout Britain. Although numbers are increasing, in some areas they still remain vulnerable due to threats to their habitat and food sources. They are also liable to be killed on roads where there are road improvements and where traffic moves at ever increasing speed.<\/div>\n

In the National Park area, we are gathering information on how many otters there are and where they live. You can help the National Park Rangers to do this by recording when and where you see otters.<\/div>\n
