{"id":359,"date":"2009-03-06T12:39:07","date_gmt":"2009-03-06T11:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/?p=359"},"modified":"2009-03-10T15:06:44","modified_gmt":"2009-03-10T14:06:44","slug":"bumble-bees-need-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/2009\/03\/bumble-bees-need-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Bumble Bees Need You!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/bumble_lavender290.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-360 alignleft\" title=\"bumble_lavender290\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/bumble_lavender290.jpg\" alt=\"Bumble Bees Love Lavender\" width=\"290\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With spring in the air, it will soon be time for the queen <a title=\"Information on the Bumble Bee\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bumblebee\" target=\"_blank\">Bumble Bees<\/a> to emerge from hibernation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<br \/>\nThey overwinter in nests, often in the ground and come out with the first rays of spring sunshine to start their search for a new home. \u00a0They can be seen crawling over the ground seeming dazed or injured, but if left alone they will soon warm up and be flying around in search of food.<\/p>\n<p>Bumble bees are vitally important to our gardens and agriculture, with many plants such as tomatoes and raspberries relying on these insects for pollination. \u00a0In fact, some plants can ONLY be pollinated by Bumble Bees.<\/p>\n<p>There are many <a title=\"Bumble Bee Identification page from BBCT\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bumblebeeconservationtrust.co.uk\/bumblebees_id.htm\" target=\"_blank\">species of Bumble Bee<\/a> but they are reaching a crisis point with a few of the species now extinct and others on the seriously endangered list. \u00a0This is primarily due to use of pesticides and over intensive farming which has removed many of the wild flowers and hedgerows upon which these creatures rely.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_361\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-361\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/bumble_nest290.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-361 \" title=\"bumble_nest290\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/bumble_nest290.jpg\" alt=\"Bumble Bees of ten nest in the ground\" width=\"290\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-361\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bumble Bees often nest in the ground<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The outlook, however, does not have to be grim.
