{"id":1802,"date":"2011-05-04T19:50:59","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T18:50:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/?p=1802"},"modified":"2011-05-04T19:50:59","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T18:50:59","slug":"forestxplorer-iphone-app-helps-in-the-forest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/2011\/05\/forestxplorer-iphone-app-helps-in-the-forest\/","title":{"rendered":"ForestXplorer iPhone app helps in the forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"Forestry Commission\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forestry.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Forestry Commission<\/a> in England has launched a new iphone app to help visitors identify and learn about trees found in local woodlands.<\/p>\n<p>Already an award winning bit of software it also allows users to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>download handy trail maps<\/li>\n<li>learn about trees with an easy to use tree identifier.<\/li>\n<li>search for sites by event or activity<\/li>\n<li>find basic information such as opening times, things to do, directions and contact details for Forestry Commission Forest Parks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The app also includes a photo gallery, and a UK common tree identifier with unique computer generated tree illustrations. This allows users to identify a tree using its bark, seed or leaf within just a few clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Finding a mobile signal deep in the forest can be quite tricky.
