{"id":1211,"date":"2010-04-08T18:30:56","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T17:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/?p=1211"},"modified":"2010-04-08T18:30:56","modified_gmt":"2010-04-08T17:30:56","slug":"international-dawn-chorus-day-2-may-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/2010\/04\/international-dawn-chorus-day-2-may-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"International Dawn Chorus Day &#8211; 2 May 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>International Dawn Chorus Day is an annual celebration of the world\u2019s oldest wake-up call \u2013 the dawn chorus \u2013 and the beauty of bird song.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1213\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/robin_600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1213\" title=\"Robin overlooks a Cumbrian valley\" src=\"http:\/\/www.naturearoundme.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/robin_600-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Robin overlooks a Cumbrian valley\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Robin overlooks a Cumbrian valley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Throughout the UK, people are encouraged to wake up early and listen to the dawn chorus from their bedroom window.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, birds such as the blackbird, robin or skylark are among the first to strike up, and the dawn chorus begins in earnest as the sun rises, usually between 5am-5.30am in early May.<\/p>\n<p>Although the dawn chorus carries on until mid-morning the best time to hear it is the first hour\u00a0before sunrise \u2013 which means getting up early!<\/p>\n<p>For those who want to experience the dawn chorus in the wild, <a title=\"Cumbria Wildlife Trust\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cumbriawildlifetrust.org.uk\/international-dawn-chorus-day-sunday-2-may-2010.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cumbria Wildlife Trust<\/a>&#8216;s staff, volunteers and partners have organised early morning bird walks and dawn chorus breakfasts.<\/p>\n<p>We have four events running in Cumbria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sunday 2 May, Birds and breakfast, Broughton-in-Furness<\/li>\n<li>Sunday 2 May, Early birds and spring flowers, Longtown<\/li>\n<li>Sunday 2 May, International Dawn Chorus Day at Dubwath Silver Meadows, near Bassenthwaite Lake<\/li>\n<li>Wednesday 5 May, Dawn chorus at Brown Robin Nature Reserve, Grange-over-Sands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Other events are taking place in the county and all over the globe by other local bird  and wildlife conservation groups.\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"Local Dawn Chorus events\" href=\"http:\/\/www.idcd.info\/events-in-your-area\/europe\/england\/\" target=\"_blank\">Details<\/a> can be found on the IDCD website.
