Scottish Birdfair Announced for 2012

The first annual Scottish national event for bird and wildlife watching enthusiasts has been announced for 19 – 20 May 2012.

Bringing together the bird and wildlife watching community, the Scottish birdfair will celebrate the country’s unique birds and wildlife.

Held at Hopetoun House, a stately home, on the outskirts of Edinburgh, the event will be a focal point for all things birds, wildlife and natural environment.

The new event in the nature calendar hopes to attract more than 5,000 bird and wildlife watchers from across the country.

All funds raised from the event will go to dedicated Scottish conservation.

Activities and events for all ages covering a wide range of birding and wildlife topics including photography, introduction to bird ID, seabird cruises on the Firth of Forth as well as gardening for wildlife will all be on offer.

Event goers will also have the opportunity to ‘try before they buy’ from Scotland’s largest range of birding and nature related clothes, holidays, optics and more.

Scottish Birdfair organiser, Sarah McDowell, said: “Bird and wildlife watching is one of the fastest growing hobbies in Scotland and around the world.  Bands like Elbow, Doves, and British Sea Power all cite birds and bird watching as the inspiration for some of their songs, and celebrities such as Jarvis Cocker, Bill Bailey and Alex Zane have all helped to lend a new, cool aspect to this fantastic hobby.

There will be something for everyone at the Scottish Birdfair from the most dedicated bird enthusiasts to garden wildlife watchers.”

Tickets cost £12/£10 and can be purchased at
