Spring Arrives in Cumbria
The end of February has seen a very mild week with temperatures jumping from 4 to 10 degrees Celcius.
Light breezes and spring sunshine have made for some very good days to go walking.
Only two weeks ago, the only flowers to be seen were a sprinkling of snowdrops, but these have now turned into huge drifts and have been the best display of snowdrops we have seen for a number of years. (We think this is due to the colder winter, or should we say, more normal winter, that we have had this year).
Joining the snowdrops are the gentle nodding flowers of Crocus and Celandine with the first Daffodils beginning to open in the sunlight.
Catkins on the Hazel are now joined by swelling buds promising fresh green leaves and the riverside embankment is covered in drifts of young Wild Garlic.
Even a cheeky azalea puts on an early show in a sheltered area of a park.
The birds are in full voice with Thrushes fighting over territory and mates.

All of these pictures were taken on a walk alongside the river Eden and up to Eden Bridge Gardens in Carlisle.
